Produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), MEDLINE provides citations, many with abstracts, to the world's journal literature in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. Sources include more than 3,900 current biomedical journals published in more than 70 countries. NLM has posted a brief history of the print equivalent of MEDLINE, including what is and is not online. Being on the ProQuest interface, searching in this version of MEDLINE allows all the same functionality including basic and advanced searching, and facets displayed with your search results to further specify the kind of material you are looking for. Also, MEDLINE can be combined with other ProQuest databases in a single search, allow this is not always recommended given the unique fields in MEDLINE and other databases. The PubMed Journal Browser allows you to look up journal names, MEDLINE abbreviations, or ISSN numbers for journals that are included in the PubMed system. The content of MEDLINE is also available freely through PubMed.
