Welcome! I'm a librarian supporting the following programs:

- use Omni, Laurier Library's academic research tool
- learn how to search specific databases
- search with Google more effectively, and learn how to find scholarly sources on the internet
- learn to recognize different types of sources
- find grey literature
- analyze your research question or develop a research strategy
- learn how to choose and analyze your search results
- manage and cite your sources in most styles including APA, MLA, Chicago, McGill
- with any other research or library questions you may have

Book a 1-on-1 research appointment with me

Research appointments are 30 minutes by default, but if you think you might need more time, please let me know on the form and I will give you more time if I am available.

Have you changed your mind, or something came up? No worries, it happens! Just send me an email and let me know you need to cancel or reschedule.

You can book an appointment directly in my calendar by clicking this link! This link uses Microsoft Office Teams to book video meetings or in-person meetings (you will still receive a Teams-meeting link when you select "In-person" but I will be waiting for you in my office!) In-person meetings take place in my office (GRH 108A) in the Digital Library & Learning Commons, and require you to wear a mask (I can provide a mask for you if you don't have one). The Digital Learning Commons is one floor down from the main lobby, and my office is located close to the circulation desk. For video meetings I prefer Teams, but if you prefer to use Zoom, I will email you back with an invite link for that platform.

Teams Chat

If I'm not in a meeting or scheduled elsewhere, you can reach me through Microsoft Office Teams chat during work hours (Chat with CJ on Teams button in menu).

Send me an email for non-urgent research help: cnyssen@wlu.ca Please keep in mind if you send me an email on Thursday evening, you might not get a response from me until next Tuesday.

If you choose to send me an email for non-urgent research help please include:

your course number and when the assignment is due
as much information about the assignment as possible (you can send the assignment as an attachment, or quote parts for which you want help)
where you have already searched for information, what keywords you have used, and what kind of results you have achieved

Get Help from the Library

If you need quick help when I am not available, please send an email to libref@wlu.ca (if you send an email to this address, remember to indicate you cannot wait for my return, and another reference librarian will assist you).

If you have a basic question about the library, e.g. how do I check out books? where is the Podcast Studio? etc. you can contact a library staff member through the Ask Us chat service.
