Course Resources: Information for Instructors

The library can put your the course reading materials on virtual course reserves that can be integrated into your online class.

New Course Resources platform May 1, 2026

The Course Resources platform allows you to create and manage digital reading lists that improve student engagement and simplify access to library resources. The platform is fully integrated with Omni (the library discovery system), which makes library materials easy to find and add to your resource list.

Course Resources overview

Instructors can:

  • Build course resource lists themselves or collaborate with others,
  • Add any kind of content, including but not limited to physical books, eBooks, eBook chapters, scholarly articles, streaming videos, and newspaper articles.
  • Structure lists with weekly, or topic-based sections,
  • Easily roll over course resource lists from semester to semester and update as needed,
  • Have resources checked for copyright compliance and accessibility by library staff.

Students can:

  • Access course resources directly from My Learning Space in a new mobile-friendly interface,
  • Save money in courses that use library-funded materials, open web content, and/or Open Educational Resources

How to access your resource list

If you have already submitted a resources list request, you will need to activate it in My Learning Space so that students can access the resources.

How to submit your resource list

You have multiple options for creating a course resources list:

Submission dates

To ensure your requests are available by the start of classes they should be submitted by:

  • Fall term: July 15
  • Winter term: November 15
  • Spring/Summer term: March 15

Please note: If you indicate the weeks when the readings are scheduled, it will help the Library make required readings available for students at the beginning of classes.

Even those submitted after the deadline will be processed as expediently as possible on a first-come basis. We aim to complete the first six weeks of course resources of each list submitted to equitably accommodate the large number of requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we moving to a new Course Resources system?

Ares has reached the end of its life. The new system (Leganto) has a more modern user interface, will enable much greater instructor independence, can encourage student engagement, and will streamline library staff workflows to enable us to support more courses.

What support is available to help me use the new system?

A Guide for Instructors is available to walk you through the steps of creating and managing a resource list. In addition, there will be scheduled drop-in sessions with live demonstrations and opportunities to ask questions.

Do I have to create my own resource list now or can the library still do it for me?

You are welcome to send a copy of your course syllabus with all the resources listed by week to libreserves@wlu.ca and we can build your list for you.

I am teaching a course that I taught last year and I want to use the same resource list. Is this possible?

Yes! When you are on the My Learning Space page for the course, click on Course Resources in the top menu and then select Create a list from an existing list. Follow the prompts to select the resource list you want to copy to the new semester. Full instructions are in the Guide for Instructors.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

We are happy to answer questions! Please email libreserves@wlu.ca
