18th Century Stenciled Antiphonary

This early 18th century stenciled antiphonary is our most recent rare book donation. It contains chants and prayers for various saints and dates with musical notation throughout. It is 55 cm x 40 cm and contains 149 leaves.

Description follows
Description

The antiphonary is a very large book measuring 55 cm by 40 cm, making it about the size of a bed pillow, if it were rotated 90 degrees. Its cover is made of worn, aged leather that is smooth but also has creasing and scratches.  It has brass braces providing protections on three of the corners. It also has four circular, brass bosses in each corner. These elements have a raised centre which offered the leather cover protection when the book was stacked or placed on surfaces.  In the middle upper region is another brass element that may have been for a decorative or functional component. In the middle lower region is subtle wear and holes that suggest there was a similar feature at the bottom, but it has come off.

BACCHUS Laurier collection

BACCHUS Laurier was a student-led, alcohol education program which aimed to educate students about responsible drinking, safe sex and other topics. Following the success of BACCHUS Laurier, a national organization was created to promote the program across Canada, under the direction of staff at Laurier. This collection includes records relating to BACCHUS Laurier and their activities on campus as well as the creation of BACCHUS Canada.
