New Course Resources platform coming May 1, 2026

Published:

Starting with the Spring 2026 semester, Laurier Library is moving to a new Course Resources platform. This will replace the old Ares system that many of you are familiar with. The new platform is fully integrated with Omni (the library discovery system) for easy access to library materials.

Instructors can:

  • Build course resource lists themselves or collaborate with others,
  • Add any kind of content, including but not limited to physical books, eBooks, eBook chapters, scholarly articles, streaming videos, and newspaper articles.
  • Structure lists with weekly, or topic-based sections,
  • Easily roll over course resource lists from semester to semester and update as needed,
  • Have resources checked for copyright compliance and accessibility by library staff.

Students can:

  • Access course resources directly from My Learning Space in a new mobile-friendly interface,
  • Save money in courses that use library-funded materials, open web content, and/or Open Educational Resources

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we moving to a new Course Resources system?

Ares has reached the end of its life. The new system (Leganto) has a more modern user interface, will enable much greater instructor independence, can encourage student engagement, and will streamline library staff workflows to enable us to support more courses.

What support is available to help me use the new system?

A Guide for Instructors is available to walk you through the steps of creating and managing a resource list. In addition, there will be scheduled drop-in sessions with live demonstrations and opportunities to ask questions.

Do I have to create my own resource list now or can the library still do it for me?

You are welcome to send a copy of your course syllabus with all the resources listed by week to libreserves@wlu.ca and we can build your list for you.

I am teaching a course that I taught last year and I want to use the same resource list. Is this possible?

Yes! When you are on the My Learning Space page for the course, click on Course Resources in the top menu and then select Create a list from an existing list. Follow the prompts to select the resource list you want to copy to the new semester. Full instructions are in the Guide for Instructors.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

We are happy to answer questions! Please email libreserves@wlu.ca
