Celebrating Pride Month 2026

The Progressive Pride Flag, designed by Daniel Quasar in 2018

This year the Wilfrid Laurier University Library celebrates Pride Month with a collection called 2SLGBTQ+ History - From Marginalization to Visibility. This collection highlights the rich and nuanced history of the 2SLGBTQ+ community's continued struggle for recognition and rights in Canada and across the globe. At a time when the 2SLGBTQ+ community continue to face discrimination from many avenues, it is important to remember the history of queer resistance work that saw such great strides in rights for many in the community.

In addition to this new collection, we continue to highlight previous collections that promote fantastic voices and stories and ideas from the 2SLGBTQ+ community. These displays offer insight into the lives of members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community through a wide range of voices and media.

These collections include:

LGBTQ2S+ and Music - This collection brings together a number of excellent volumes looking at the influence that music has had on the LGBTQ2S+ community, and the impact the community has had on music.

Pride 2024 - Diverse Voices - This collection brings together queer authors from around the globe to focus on diversity and intersectionality within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, with fiction, histories, and memoirs examining how our identities impact our lived experiences.

LGBTQ+ Graphic Novels - This collection from 2023 celebrates and amplifies 2SLGBTQIA+ voices, authors, illustrators, and artists. The works featured in this collection range from mainstream voices, such as DC Comics, to smaller presses. These volumes feature coming out stories, stories about heroes in the community, stories about different sexual orientations and gender identities, and stories about love, loss and decentering normative narratives.

2SLGBTQ+ Pride Month Book Display - This collection from 2022 celebrates the 2SLGBTQIA+ writers, researchers, artists, and storytellers. The featured works include stories about coming out and about tragedy, but also work to de-centre the predominance of these themes within 2SLGBTQIA+ literature. These stories also celebrate and discuss everyday life, romance, dating, and navigating queerness alongside experiences of racialization, disability, gender diversity, and class, among other things.

We hope these collections inspire you to experience a new diversity of voices across the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Happy Pride!
