Matt Thomas received his Master of Library and Information Science from University of Western Ontario (London, ON) in 2000.  Before joining the Laurier community in 2011, he was the Collections Librarian at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (Thunder Bay, ON), a Health Sciences Librarian at Queen's University (Kingston, ON), and the Librarian Supervisor, Cyber Center at Queensborough Public Library (Jamaica, NY).  Although he has a range of experience in librarianship, his professional and academic focus is on access to resources, technological or otherwise.

Matt has been Electronic Resources Librarian (or eResources Librarian) since 2011. In this role, he is responsible for managing and ensuring access to the electronic resources in Laurier Library's collection. This includes creating and updating access points, ensuring proper authentication, supporting selection and evaluation, storing and organizing records, and resolving issues related to access.

Matt has taken on the role of Temporary Head, Information Resources from August 2023 until April 2025 as Charlotte Innerd has taken on the role of Acting AUL. He was Temporary Head, Collection Development & Acquisitions in 2021.
