On Problematic Language in Library Catalogues
Libraries using the Library of Congress classification system are working towards decolonizing and Indigenizing their collections. Unfortunately, this means that use of outdated terminologies may be required in order to search for materials, e.g. Indian instead of Indigenous, or Micmac instead of Mi'kmaq.
Please visit the Library of Congress website for a searchable list of current subject headings.
Please visit Laurier Library's Strategic Action Plan for more information about decolonizing the Library.
