Laurier’s Faculty of Social Work Library has been temporarily moved to a new location following repeated water leakage in its regular space in early January, 2017.
The Social Work Library has been relocated to Room FSW-002 on the lower level of the Faculty of Social Work building, effective immediately, while repairs to the regular location are completed.
“I would like to thank the Social Work, Physical Resources, ICT and Library teams for their hard work to make this temporary Library location a reality,” said Gohar Ashoughian, Laurier’s university librarian. “They have created a highly functional space for our students and faculty in a very short period of time.”
No collections were damaged by the water, and repairs to the regular Social Work Library space are ongoing. A timeline for the Library’s return to its regular space is not yet available, but repairs are expected to take at least several weeks.
All Social Work Library materials and services, with the exception of print periodical access, will be available in the temporary location from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. Print periodicals are available upon request (there is also a wide range of electronic journals available to students and faculty online).
“The timely relocation of the library was an example of Laurier team work at its best,” said Gordon Bertrand, associate university librarian, who led the transition to the temporary space. "Our sincere thanks to everyone who assisted with this effort, including Dan Graham (Facilities); Charlotte Innerd, Jenn Cook (Library); Dawna Buzza, Linda Norton and Zaida Leon (Faculty of Social Work); and Melanie More-Duckworth and Will McPhee (ICT) among others.”
Roberta Ellington, User Services supervisor for the Social Work Library, will be located in the temporary Social Work Library space to assist users, and can be reached at ext. 5256 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
