March 31 is the International Transgender Day of Visibility

Mar 31, 2020 -

March 31st every year is the "International Transgender Day of Visibility". It's about celebrating trans people and their contributions to society, and raising awareness of the discrimination they face around the world. (See the Wikipedia page about it for a few more details.) Here are a few resources by or about trans people:

Laurier Libraries and Access to Eresources

Mar 20, 2020 -

The Library’s eresources (ebooks, databases, journals, streaming videos, etc.) continue to be available off-campus through logging in with your Laurier network authentication.

In this unprecedented time, publishers and vendors are also responding to the call and making resources available in different ways. For example, ebooks in ProQuest Ebook Central, one of our main platforms, will be open for unlimited access, for a limited time.

The Library is working to provide discoverability to these eresources but most of these free access points will be found outside of Omni.

Returning Library Books and Materials

Mar 19, 2020 -

No fines will be charged for overdue Library books and other materials not returned during building closures. All Laurier books and borrowed materials will have their due dates extended accordingly. You may hold on to borrowed items until Library facilities re-open.

Changes to interlibrary loans (requests for materials from other libraries)

Mar 19, 2020 -

Laurier Library will be suspending interlibrary loan services (requesting from other libraries) for all print and physical materials such as books. Laurier and most other partner libraries have closed their physical locations.

We will be working hard to enhance the availability of electronic resources to our campus community through purchase or license of additional electronic resources or through requests for digital borrowing (digital interlibrary loan).

Laurier Library fines forgiveness

Jan 15, 2020 -

With the successful launch of Omni on December 17, we are now pleased to forgive all currently outstanding overdue fines for all our Laurier students, faculty, staff and community borrowers (see exceptions heading below)! This action is being taken to support the shift to the new fines policies in Omni. The changes to affected user accounts will take place prior to January 31, 2020.

Update on UG and UW Loan Information for Laurier Omni User Accounts

Jan 13, 2020 -

Wilfrid Laurier migrated to a new library system (Omni) in late December along with the Universities of Waterloo, Guelph and 11 other Ontario universities.  While this new system creates some significant enhancements, the migration process has also created a temporary issue where some current loans from the University of Waterloo or the University of Guelph may not be visible in your Omni “My Library Account” (upper right hand corner, under “Menu”).

Omni new academic search tool is now live!

Dec 17, 2019 -

Dear Faculty, Students and Staff,

The Laurier Library is proud to announce that Omni is now live for our community. The transition from our previous system (Primo) is now complete. Omni is your new academic search tool and library system that replaces Primo.

All Laurier users can now place holds/recalls from other Omni libraries (including Waterloo and Guelph). Note: holds/recalls are now called “Requests” in Omni.
