Accessing Harvard Business Review Articles

*Harvard Business Review (HBR) imposes a ‘read-only’ restriction on 500 of its most popular articles. The record of these articles will have the following message displayed in a yellow box: “The publisher offers limited access to this article. The full text cannot be printed or saved.” Therefore, the PDF’s of these articles cannot be printed and the article can only be read on-screen.

  1. Start on the Library Homepage.
  2. Click on 'Journal titles', and enter the journal title in the search box. Click 'Search by title'. *If the Harvard Business Review is listed next to 'Popular journal titles' you can select that rather than typing in the search box (you can then skip to step 4).Accessing HBR from the Library Homepage through the Journal titles tab
  3. Select the hyperlinked journal from the list, subsequently a new window will open.

  5. If you are off-campus then you will be prompted to enter in your Laurier Network Login account credentials (MyLaurier username and password) in order to access electronic resources from off-campus.Off-campus Library access
  6. If you have a citation then you can either browse by volume/issue number or run a phrase search for the article title (you can also use keywords to search HBR to find articles on various topics).

Browsing
  • Browse for the article by selecting the year of publication then volume and issue number.Browsing for an HBR article using volume and issue number
  • Scroll down the page until you find the article. Locate by page numbers/title.
  • Click on the PDF to download the article or choose to view in HTML.Scroll down the page until you find the article. Locate by page numbers/title.
  • Search for the article by selecting the 'Search within this publication' link.
  • Enter the title of the article in quotes and select 'Title' from the drop-down menu list.

  • You should only have one result appear – the article you are seeking.
  • Click on the PDF to download the full-text or choose to view in HTML.The article in question should appear
Searching HBR with Keywords
  • You can also use keywords to search HBR to find articles on various topics.
  • Select the 'Search within this publication link'.
  • In the additional row(s) input your keywords(s).
  • Click 'Search'.
  • You can then refine your results as you see fit with the left-hand toolbar.Select the Search within this publication link, and then enter keywords into the additional rows

Print

Laurier Library also subscribes to the print edition of the Harvard Business Review. To access the print edition:

  1. Start on the Library Homepage.
  2. Click on 'Journal titles', and select the 'Search print journals' link.
  3. Click on 'Advanced Search', and then select the 'Books +' tab.
  4. Enter the journal title in the search box and select the 'in the title' field from the drop-down menu list.

  6. Once you have located the journal, click on 'Locations & Requests'.
  • HBR can be found on the 4th floor of the Library (call number HF5001.H3).
  • Current and older issues are available, from the years 1966 - present.Clicking Locations and Requests from the journal's record
