  2. Choose one or more newspapers to search

C) Find newspaper articles: two approaches

You will need five to eight articles, published between 2000 and 2015. Use only papers from the list below. Note: ProQuest is easiest to search, but does not include all the papers listed. Factiva has all the papers, but is more difficult to search.

1. Search using ProQuest

Canadian Newspapers

American Newspapers

  • New York Times

Steps:

  • Go to the Advanced Search
  • Limit by date (2000-2015)
  • You can also limit by document type, eg. article, editorial, front page cover story
  • Sample searches
    • "child obesity" searches for exactly those words in that order
    • expand your search: put child* on one line, obesity on another
    • expand your search using similar terms on a line: safety OR danger OR injury
  • Hint: read more articles than you need, then choose the best for your research question

  • choose keywords
  • enter a date range: 01/01/2000 to 31/12/2015
