Library and Accessible Learning Centre implement new portal for users with print disabilities

The Laurier Library is pleased to announce its participation in the Accessible Content E-Portal (ACE), a repository of accessible format texts available to users with print disabilities at participating Ontario universities.

The repository contains digitized print books in five accessible formats.

The implementation of this service at Laurier is a joint venture of the Library and the university’s Accessible Learning Centre. The service is designed to improve the library experience for our users, and supports accessibility requirements under section 18 of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Information and Communication Standard.

ACE began as a pilot program in 2012 and due to its success is now one of Scholars Portal’s core programs, which include variety of information resources and services to Ontario’s 21 university libraries through the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) consortium.
